German Banking Industry Planning Mass Deployments
- The German Banking Industry Committee – Deutsche Kreditwirtschaft, partners with Infineon Technologies on mass deployment of contactless cards and devices in the Hanovre-Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Region. To this day, the “girogo” project is the largest initiative in Europe.
- Over 1.3 million cardholders will be able to opt for contactless payment in stores and gas stations. Transactions below 20 euros will not require any signature; contact and contactless cards will embed Infineon chips complying both with EMV and Common Critaria EAL5+.

- According to the German banking association BVR, “girogo” is a first step towards further developments. Germany used to be lagging behind some other countries in terms of contactless adoption, but carries on working to leads to way with this large scale announcement.
- Ingenico's subsidiary easycash GmbH announces having completed its acquiring contactless card portfolio and can now accept all available cards on the German market: MasterCard PayPass, girogo and Visa payWave.
