ING Belgium Selects Gemalto’s Ezio
- ING Belgium opts for Gemalto’s strong authentication solution Ezio. Ezio Classic card readers will soon be distributed to all its customers. The manufacturer is in charge of server integration, packaging as well as of delivering the readers.
- This tool enables its user to receive an OTP via several devices (card, mobile phone, optical reader, etc.) thus providing the bank with a larger number of options to choose from.
- The server and the reader comply with MasterCard’s Chip Authentication Program and with Visa’s Dynamic Passcode Authentication. They are also R4-EMV compliant (EMV implementation in Belgium).
- Several financial players (Dexia, KBC, BNP Paribas Fortis, etc.) have opted for Vasco’s DIGIPASS. ING Belgium goes for its rival Gemalto to secure its online transactions.
- The popularity of strong authentication devices enabling the generation of dynamic one-time passwords is again reasserted. In 2010, Gemalto announced that Ezio was being made available and proposed its card on the US market. The manufacturer then explained that several EU banks were testing these products but no final orders had been noted.
- The security of online transactions is a major concern: this is also shown by heavy development efforts to launch several rival solutions such as Visa CodeSure, MasterCard Display Card or RuPay’s (ex-IndiaPay) Intellect Privacy card– See June, October and November 2010 Insights.
