Facebook Credits and Mobile Browsers

  • Rumour has it that Facebook would be discussing with developer to create an HTML5 version of its mobile app.
  • This version would make it possible to access third parties’ mobile app without connecting to downloading galleries, such as the App Store. Developers could then propose the use of Facebook Credits on mobile apps through the mobile Web browser.
  • If true, the social network could eventually challenge Google, Apple, RiM, etc. through designing an alternative model for services accessing (than mobile apps) and provide for the availability of its own mobile virtual currency.
  • Facebook would free itself from mobile OS developers and would not need to have its app listed in their stores. Apple and Google would no longer be paid when downloading apps from their platforms (30% commission for Apple).
