Zwipe Showcases White Label Solutions for Fingerprint Enrolment

As biometric solutions are increasingly popular and biometric-enabled contactless payment cards are becoming a trend, Zwipe is making adjustments to their products. The Norwegian start-up unveils a new set of white label solutions for fingerprint-based customer enrolment. These services are consistent with the ongoing changes on the European authentication market: strong authentication will soon be made mandatory.

Zwipe’s new range of fingerprint-based enrolment solutions will be intended for banks and issuers. It includes a secure at-home biometric payment card enrolment kit for cardholders, and a software suite designed for banks to use in branches.

The enrolment kit is sent via post mail to Zwipe cardholders. It consists in a power source on which the card is attached. Once the kit opened, the card is automatically activated. The customer must place his finger on the biometric sensor until a green button lights up to store his fingerprint. The software suite, for its part, is meant for banks’ branches enabling them store their customers’ fingerprint on site.

Zwipe plans to showcase their new services at this year’s FinTech Connect Live, to be held on December 5th and 6th 2018 in London.

Comments – Biometrics soon to replace SMS-based OTPs?

A few days ago, the European Commission again stressed that OTP-SMS mechanisms for authenticating online transactions using text-sent codes, were not secure enough. As the Second Payment Directive is being implemented, banking institutions must come up with a solution by September 2019. In partnership with merchant committees, they are now asking for a delay to craft these alternative security systems. The shift to strong authentication should make much room for biometrics as dedicated sensors are becoming a trend across all channels.

The Norwegian company Zwipe is well aware of the opportunities entailed by these ongoing changes. They now try to attract banks and issuers with especially developed products. The point is to help this new authentication method gain momentum while making sure the user experience stays simple.

Zwipe’s enrolment kit is similar to the solution designed by IDEX: last May, this biometric chip cards specialist also presented a battery-powered card sleeve, allowing Mastercard biometric card holders to rely on this authentication system from their home.
