Edenred transforms its fuel card into a mobility card
Edenred has just introduced a new fuel card for its American customers. Developed in partnership with Visa, this new card combines digital functions with the traditional payment card medium. Above all, it promises to make fleet management easier for companies and boosts Edenred's mobility strategy by integrating all mobility-related purchases (tolls, car washes, maintenance, electric recharging, etc.).
FACTS
-
Edenred and Visa's new offer is called Edenred Essentials. It takes the form of a fuel card that allows companies to optimise the management of their fleet.
-
The scheme is primarily based on a payment card designed to purchase fuel, recharge electric vehicles (EVs) and pay for vehicle-related expenses (purchases in shops that accept Visa cards, vehicle registration, tolls, washing, maintenance and other day-to-day needs). But it also combines advanced digital management features.
-
An online platform allows fleet managers to
-
access all information relating to Edenred Essentials cards issued by their company
-
monitor expenditure
-
receive real-time notifications to prevent potential abuse.
-
A mobile application (iOS and Android) is also available. The information is provided in several languages (English and Spanish) to make it easier to read for as many people as possible.
-
In addition, Edenred Essentials provides access to a cash-back programme offering discounts on the price of fuel at thousands of service stations across the country.
CHALLENGES
-
Reducing costs: Edenred highlights the fact that fleet management can represent one of the largest expense items for some companies, particularly in the current context of rising fuel and energy prices.
-
Reinforcing its leadership position: Edenred refers to its strong position in the mobility market worldwide to convince in the US. The group is the leader in the Mexican and Brazilian markets and fourth in Europe.
MARKET PERSPECTIVE
-
Edenred's mobility strategy has been in place for a long time. It launched its fuel card in 2016 in France. Since then, its deployment has been international. For example, Edenred entered the mobility solutions market in Belgium in 2018 and will be promoting multimodal mobility there from 2019.
-
Through its subsidiary Edenred Fleet Mobility, the employee benefits giant even took a stake in the Luxembourg start-up CarPay-Diem in 2020. This strategic decision allowed the group to open its 52,000 petrol stations across Europe to the start-up.
