Adyen renews Doctolib's payment services

Dutch payments platform Adyen has just announced the strengthening of one of its most important partnerships in the French healthcare market, with leading online medical appointment booking player Doctolib. Although the two players had already begun working together, they are now looking to innovate in terms of financial services for caregivers.

FACTS

  • Doctolib and Adyen are working together in France and, more recently, in Italy. But they have recently announced their joint ambition to radically renew the financial experience on the platform.

  • Above all, their aim is to simplify the daily lives of caregivers. In addition to an online payment service for teleconsultations, Adyen will soon be offering new financial services for caregivers, including cash flow management.

  • Patients, meanwhile, can register their means of payment in the Doctolib application to pay for their consultations.

  • In terms of security, Adyen relies on datacenters based in Europe to certify its compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and guarantee the sovereignty of the data processed.

CHALLENGES

  • Capitalizing on its license: Adyen holds a banking license in the United Kingdom, which it will obtain in September 2023. But the company is capitalizing above all on its European banking license, obtained in 2017, to operate today in France.

  • Creating a complete financial management tool: Adyen and Doctolib emphasize their ambition to offer caregivers services capable of reducing their administrative tasks, paving the way for an all-in-one solution. This approach is in line with a trend in which players such as Qonto and iPaidThat are also seeking to offer integrated financial services, but aimed at a wider corporate audience. Unlike the latter, Adyen and Doctolib focus exclusively on the needs of healthcare professionals. With regard to Adyen in particular, the payment platform has just teamed up with Spendesk, once again confirming its ambition to cover the broader financial needs of professionals, starting with payment.

  • Pursuing international expansion: While the partnership between Doctolib and Adyen currently occupies them in France and Italy, the joint ambitions of the two partners are clearly focused on the internationalization of their offering, with Germany in their sights as the next step.

MARKET PERSPECTIVE

  • Historically, Doctolib has worked with Stripe for many years to manage payments on its platform.
  • For several months now, medical appointment platform Doctolib has been striving to transform the user experience by enriching its services. Last June, it introduced a number of innovations, including an online payment function designed to simplify billing for doctors, while offering patients a secure solution thanks to strong authentication. To support this development, Doctolib had already chosen Adyen as its technology partner, confirming their strategic collaboration.
