Acquisition: Gemalto Buys Ericsson ‘s Payment Platform

• Gemalto has acquired Ericsson’s mobile payment and messaging platform IPX (Internet Payment Exchange AB), excluding US operations. IPX connects over one thousand customers to roughly 120 MNOs; it operates payment platforms as a white label service for various operators.

• As part of the agreement, Gemalto is also acquiring Ericsson's TSM activity. IPX will join Gemalto's Software & Services business line in the Mobile Communications segment.

• IPX launched its PaaS-based TSM platform in 2010 and, since this year, has been proposing a SDK allowing developers to test their NFC apps relying on its TSM service.

• IPX counts on this buyout to cater for the development of its offers and purports to take advantage of their complementary services. Gemalto for its part bets on IPX’s business skills and international reach.
