TSM: Westpac Opts for Oberthur Technologies
- Westpac has opted for Oberthur Technologies as trusted third party to let its customers pre-personalise their payment cards using their Android-based Smartphone. This SIM-based service is currently under test and should allow cardholders to make contactless in-store transactions once their mobile virtual cards configured.
- For the first time in Australia, a financial institution picks a SIM-based solution (considered more lasting) for an m-payment experiment, leaving aside other intermediary solutions (such as cases, microSDs, stickers, etc.).
- The number of contactless acceptance tools in the retail sector suggests that many Australian consumers could soon turn to this type of multi-application solutions (payment, loyalty, transportation and mobile ticketing).

- Oberthur Technologies specialises in distant administration and customisation, it has a track record of more than thirty TSM references around the world.
- Westpac, in partnership with MasterCard, has been testing their Android m-payment app for about a month. The devices, with NFC-compatible SIM cards, allow their users to make purchases based on a MasterCard PayPass compatible virtual debit card. This app fits in its overall mobile strategy, and is consistent with other tools such as Mobile PayWay for iOS 4 and above and its iPad-dedicated solution.
