Facebook Launches an App Center
- Facebook has announced that it is set to open the App Center, a Web and mobile application gallery for Android and iOS available to its social network members.
- It will initially provide developers with the opportunity to present their free apps (with or without paid content options). The main new feature is that paid apps will also be made available on the platform.
- Facebook has not yet announced which payment system will be used to pay for apps.

- With the launch of its application gallery, Facebook is providing a new opportunity for developers to commercialise their projects on the social network, but it is also a means of monetising its services.
- The constant search for new ways of generating revenue has led Facebook to organise a test that is currently taking place in New Zealand and which involves status sponsoring. Members of the network are invited to pay a fee for their status to be highlighted, with the aim being to build their e-reputation.
- These announcements come at a difficult time for Facebook, with its shares initially valued at $38 constantly falling since it began trading on the Nasdaq on 18 March. Facebook has indeed lost 24% of its estimated value of $100 billion, while its annual revenue is only just over $1 billion.
