M-payment: Partnership between Oxatis and Buyster

  • The e-commerce platform Oxatis and Payment Institution Buyster have partnered on a new solution for Oxatis’s 6,500 e merchants. Adopting Buyster may allow them to identify their customers and process cash or deferred payments.
  • This partnership aims at enabling native turn-key integration of Buyster’s payment service on the e-commerce platform, thus relieving e-merchants from technical implementation efforts. Oxatis designed an all-in-one service for small and medium businesses, including e-merchants-dedicated apps, hosting, technical support and assistance programme.
  • Strengthened by this agreement, Buyster claims having registered several subscriptions.
  • Among the pre-requisites imposed to merchants wishing to use Buyster, Oxatis reminds that they must have a French bank account and be represented in France.

  • Buyster, was created by Atos, Bouygues Telecom, Orange and SFR (see February 2011 Insight) and has been granted Payment Institution status by the ACP in April 2011. The PI insists on dedicated guarantees in case of fraud, on the possible improvement of online traffic, and the potential reduction of shopping cart abandonments. This agreement could favour its development as it still has difficulties valorising its presence on the mobile and e-commerce markets.
  • Buyster was officially launched in September 2011 in France through a first partnership with RueDuCommerce, and, at the time, it mentioned upcoming adoption by several other e merchants (see September 2011 Insight).
  • To use this service, the Internet surfers must have opened an account on the e-merchant’s website and provide their card and mobile phone numbers. The authentication process is then based on this mobile number, on a dedicated six-digit code, as well as on an SMS OTP for transaction validation.
