M-payment: Paying Income Taxes by Mobile
- In France, taxpayers can now return and pay their income-taxes using their Smartphone and a free dedicated app in iOS and Android, “impots.gouv”.
- The French Ministry of Budget, Public Accounts and Civil Administration launches this new app to allow people to pay their income-taxes: yet, it is intended for taxpayers who do not have to modify their pre-filled tax return statement as only the validation process is available. All changes still have to be notified through the dedicated website.
- To use this app, taxpayers may scan a QR-code printed at the bottom right hand corner of their statement or on the letter they received. It can be used to pay the second instalment in May.
- Other evolutions could be envisaged to widen the range of available mobile administrative procedures.

- The French General Directorate of Public Finance (Direction Générale des Finances Publiques) have shown that over 12 million remote reporting have been registered in 2011 (+15% compared to 2010 and +64% within three years). This considered, this administration has opted for a mobile service in line with the current mobile trend already praised in various sectors.
- For now, the app is only meant for validation and payment procedures, yet further evolutions might be made available (for instance, a tablet-dedicated app) to widen the range of proposed features through redesigned interfaces.
- This launch could also free taxpayers from some constraints inherent to typical online procedures, already catered for this year through dropping certificate-based procedures.
