Protocol: The End of ETEBAC Delayed to Mid-2012

  • End June 2011, Orange Business Services informed its customers that the end of X25 data transfer service had been delayed. This migration, initially planned end September 2010, is postponed until 30 June 2012.
  • The ETEBAC protocol is then prolonged even if the CFONB explains it intends to have this migration completed by end 2011.
  • OBS’s decision is due to a slow migration process as the 90,000 concerned companies are behind schedule due to their slow reaction. In France, the ETEBAC protocol currently ensures their IT exchanges with banks. It relies on the X25 technology, which Orange is now dropping because of its obsolescence compared to the Internet Protocol.
  • Possible replacement solutions are EBICS protocols, developed by the French banking community, and SWIFTNet protocols, managed by SWIFT, an interbank organisation ensuring international financial exchanges.
