Card Schemes Joining ISIS

  • ISIS venture announces new partnership with the four main US card schemes: Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Since November 2010, ISIS has gathered three of the four largest American mobile phone operators (and their 200 million subscribers): AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless.
  • ISIS CEO Michael Abbott explains they intend to achieve the required interoperability and coverage to propose mobile NFC POS payments.
  • ISIS failed at attempting to rally other mobile payment pioneers but now gathers the largest payment schemes. Its rival Sprint is still on its own and relies on American Express’s Serve since July 2011. As for Google Mobile, it only relies on MasterCard.
  • We must now wait and see how the two card schemes–American Express and MasterCard–will manage to work with three rival mobile payment initiatives and expect further information on the content of the collaboration between ISIS and the four schemes.
