New JV between Danish Mobile Operators
- The four main Danish mobile operators, Telia Denmark, TDC, Telenor Denmark and 3 Denmark, have created a joint Venture to develop a shared NFC payment platform.
- This platform should make contactless payments easier no matter the operator. The first NFC terminals will be installed in autumn 2011.
- Danish banks are also currently developing BankSMS, an alternative system which should enable its users to make purchases via SMS.
- This agreement comes in addition to the already existing ones in France, in the United States and in the United Kingdom.
- This trend is further emphasised by the increasing number of pilot tests announcements in several countries, including in Central and Eastern Europe. In Hungary, Telekom, Telenor and Vodafone associated with MasterCard, OTP Bank and SuperShop’s loyalty programme to test NFC mobile payment. Also, in Czech Republic, Telefónica O2, Komer&;269;ní Banka, Citibank Europe and the retailer Globus, associated with Visa Europe to launch an NFC mobile payment pilot.
