PayPal Getting Started with NFC
- At the Mobile Beat 2011 conference in San Francisco, PayPal announced it would launch an NFC mobile app for Android.
- Any Smartphone equipped with the ad hoc technology and dedicated app will enable contactless payment transactions through communicating with an NFC compatible terminal. These transactions will be PIN secured.
- This application should be available by the end of this summer.
- PayPal was one of the first players to adopt contactless technology with Bump (allowing the users to pay by bumping their mobile phones). The leader of online transactions is now interested in NFC contactless technology.
- Its initiative is in line with the current trend observed in most developing mobile payments markets. Several players now get involved to allow the take-off of mobile NFC payments: Google with its Google Wallet, Visa and DeviceFidelity’s case, MasterCard with its contactless stickers, etc.
