Mobile payment of Power Bills

  • Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution concluded its work to enable payment power bills using mobile phones. Three possibilities are proposed: payment via SMS, using an IVR or using a mobile application.
  • For each mobile payment the Reserve Bank of India recommends that an OTP be sent by the issuing bank. The consumer registers via SMS and indicates his customer references, card number and expiration date. Once this process completed, every time he needs to pay for a bill, he simply enters his card’s cryptogram and an OTP. Transactions using these processes cannot exceed 1,000 rupees (about 15 euros).
  • Dematerialisation processes are growing more and more popular. The customer’s account is debited at his request and this operation must be repeated every time he has to pay for a bill. This service is original because it relies on a mobile medium while many would rather go for e-invoicing: mobile payment applied to bills remains marginal.
  • Last month in Brussels, the European e-Invoicing Service Providers Association has been set up to help design standards for the dematerialisation market as expected by the European Union.
