E-banking: Metro Bank Opting for Trusteer’s Rapport

  • The British Metro Bank, created in July 2010, opts for the software solution Rapport crafted by Trusteer to protect, for instance, bank/customer communications and help them avoid potential malware and/or phishing attempts.
  • When the user browses his e-banking portal, checks his webmail or fills in forms on a payment page, the browser is locked and a secure tunnel is created to protect his exchanges.
  • Metro Bank recently entered the market, it then disposes of the most up-to-date technologies and can implement them without having to support the cost of a migration.
  • Today, banks have to face necessary evolutions: the measures they implement must comply with very demanding regulatory requirements and respond to more and more diversified threats. The banking sector make large use of SMS OTPs to secure the transactions. For instance, not long ago, Crédit du Nord and Axa Banque opted for this solution to provide their customers with a means to validate the addition of credit transfers recipients.
  • Nevertheless, these solutions, however diverse, still remain particularly expensive. The likelihood of occurrence of a threat must then still be considered just as the value of the operation (assets) to be protected (if they can be quantified).
