  • MasterCard will deploy its new mobile payment platform “MasterCard Mobile Payment Gateway” in Brazil. Itau Redecard and the mobile operator Vivo, will first to adopt this platform born from a Joint Venture between MasterCard and Smart HUB.
  • The credit or debit card number will be embedded in the SIM card, to make customers' mobile purchases easier through the Vivo mobile phone.
  • A two-month project pilot should take place in Sao José Dos Campos and would include 1,000 merchants (chemists, taxis, newspaper kiosks, etc.) and 30,000 customers, Vivo mobile phone owners.
  • The mobile operator Vivo also signed a strategic agreement with PayPal to enable its customers to use their mobile phone to buy goods and services.
  • During the 2010 Cards Exhibition, Salon Cartes, Visa Europe inaugurated a platform designed for banks to develop their mobile payment management services. This platform called Visa Mobile Gateway and Key Management Service relies on the authorisation systems set up by Visa with the banks and enable merchants to communicate with the mobile payment application installed on the embedded chip, on a removable memory card or directly on the SIM card.
  • This is not the first attempt on the part of the two international card networks to develop mobile payment solutions. They both participated in different pilot tests worldwide to work on several kinds of mobile payment solutions: NFC technology embedded in mobile phones (SIM card), microSD, NFC stickers, payment services-dedicated platforms, etc.
