M-payment: Isis Accepted at Some Gas Stations
- Isis announces having been granted support from two leading retail fuel dispensers: GE Energy’s Wayne and Gilbarco Veeder-Root. Its m-payment app SmartTap will be accepted in some locations including especially equipped gas pumps.
- These specialists insist that this partnership with Isis may be a means to lower their card acceptance costs, as gas stations are highly frequented environments. Their customers would also benefit from “innovative” solutions likely to streamline payments and rewards processes (special offers, discounts, etc.) while contributing to the development of contactless payment.
- On this occasion, Gilbarco Veeder-Root is getting its fuel dispensers prepared and Wayne will be integrating SmartTap in its (EMV and PCI-PTS 3.0 compliant) contactless acceptance infrastructure iX Pay™ Secure Payment.

- These partnerships further help Isis expend its list of partners as its first exploitation tests are to take place this summer in Austin (Texas) and Salt Lake City (Utah) (see February 2012 Insight). Last May, several names of accepting merchants have been unveiled, including small local retailers, restaurants, cafés, etc. but also industry giants such as Coca-Cola, Aéropostale, Champs, Foot Locker, Jamba Juice or Macy's:
- Rumour also has it that test phases would be launched on 20th August.
- Particularly crowded spaces such as gas stations are of strategic relevance for the JV whereas large-scale retailers are also looking for means to optimise their costs; Walmart, Target as well as other major players may in fact be working on their own m-payment solution.
