Barclaycard Proposing Contactless Corporate Cards

  • Barclaycard Global Commercial Payments announces that all of its new corporate cards will be contactless enabled. This initiative should help UK-based customer companies improve small amounts transactions tracking as, in this context, cash is generally favoured by payers.
  • Contactless payments will not require any PIN code or signature below 15 pounds (this limit has been increased from 10 to 15 pounds in March 2011).
  • All contactless transactions will be notified in the monthly statement also to include all other payments.
  • Barclays’s long lasting commitment to favour contactless solutions has undoubtedly helped this technology spread through the UK; since 2007, it has issued over 15 million contactless cards and equipped over 55,000 retailers with compatible acceptance terminals. In May 2011, Barclaycard (in partnership with Orange) has also launched the first compatible mobile phones in the UK as well as the Quick Tap app.
  • The institution first addressed individual customers and now turns towards merchants with a larger range of added value solutions.
  • Barclays was the first UK player to issue contactless card with One Pulse (embedding transportation and payment options).
  • Finally, the UK Cards Association reported 19.6 million contactless cards and 73,000 compatible payment terminals in general by end September 2011.
