New Media: PayPal and Capablue Developing Connected TV Payment Solution
- For the first time in the UK, TV watchers will be able to make micro-payments via PayPal directly through an interface displayed on their TV.
- This new service has been developed by VoD specialist Capablue and PayPal. They have designed an exchange platform dedicated to micro-payments for digital contents.
- This service requires that the TV be connected to Capablue transaction platform, Connected, which proposes several services, digital goods and apps.
- PayPal contributed to secure data exchange on this platform and has set up a PIN identification process to access payment services via Connected.
- E-merchants are aiming to propose accessible and fast e-payment solutions to prevent this process from hindering purchases. Amazon has also been developing a payment facilitation strategy through its one-click payment. The iTunes Store has also been impacted by Apple’s proposing this online solution (Apple is the only company authorised to use this means of payment).
- On the market of Connected TVs, the issue of customer process is all the more important. The solution must enable easier and quicker access to charged services not to discourage the user from completing the purchasing act (as is the case with Capablue’s Connected platform).
- Security issues are still holding customers back when it comes to online payment. Capablue partners with the online payment specialist PayPal to care for this threat and counts on its worldwide fame and security-oriented image.
