Moneo to Pay for Car Parking
- Moneo has launched a limited edition of it “Pack Stationnement” (car parking payment solution) including a “Moneo Stationnement” card (with 10 euros reloading) and a Xiring smart card reader. This device can be reloaded online, for free.
- The solution is a legal means to pay for car parking in about 70 French towns (27 of which are based in Ile-de-France). Exceptionally, this Pack costs 17 euros (compared to the usual 25.80 euros): the amount of an unpaid for car parking fine.
- A Moneo mobile app listing some 100,000 acceptance points is also available for free (for Android, BlackBerry and iPhone).
- This announcement coincides with a 55% increase of the fine due in case of unpaid for car parking since 1st August 2011 (17 euros compared to 11 before).
- Prepaid solutions seem to be fit for the payment of car parking time: in this field, too, turn-key universal solutions are expected for the users’ convenience.
- Through this initiative, Moneo should regain visibility and create a new use case for its reloadable e-purse.
- Other time saving solutions are proposed in this context. Card or mobile contactless payment will for instance be proposed in Strasbourg starting mid-October 2011: 765 pay and display machines should be equipped in the beginning of 2012. New York and Germany-based initiatives can also be mentioned (mobile payment of car parking on the one hand; fairly well implanted solutions such as VIATAG contactless case on the other hand). In France, Vinci and PayByPhone have also been collaborating around contactless payment – See August 2011 Insight. Moneo, for its part, has recently launched a contact and contactless card called MoneoPass.
