Partnership between NYCE and CUP

  • US-based ATM network NYCE, a subsidiary of the processor FIS, signed a reciprocal acceptance agreement with domestic card scheme CUP. Both networks set direct connections, also enabling account balance consultation at their ATMs.
  • The 2.6 billion CUP cards are now accepted at 360,000 NYCE ATMs. This partnership follows a similar agreement between NYCE and UK-based ATM network LINK (See dedicated note).
  • Like LINK, NYCE (New York Currency Exchange) is an ATM network with no card issuing activity. Several ATM networks coexist in the US, the main ones being NYCE, Star and PULSE, in addition to MasterCard’s Cirrus and Visa’s Plus ATMs. US issuers can choose which network(s) they wish to affiliate their card portfolio with. Through this agreement, NYCE provides CUP cardholders with the possibility to withdraw cash using its network of US issuing banks.
  • NYCE is one of the largest cash withdrawal networks and counts almost 100,000 users. CUP thus pursues its worldwide coverage strategy without MasterCard (despite a recent competition framework agreement) and Visa (with which it is still in conflict). NYCE improves its offer with regard to issuers. It can propose more competitive rates than the two international schemes in the China/United States corridor.
