PayPal in Physical Points of Sales

  • The e-payment leader has announced it should be found in physical US points of sales by the end of the year to allow end customers to pay using PayPal.
  • The US player also plans to expand its m-payment acceptance network to 20 large retailers by the end of 2012. This business growth first concerns the US and a likewise experiment has already been conducted in the UK where Pizza Express accepted PayPal m-payments.
  • During the past few months the US e-payment player has been getting involved in several initiatives to become a proper face-to-face payment services provider. For instance, it developed a mobile NFC app for Android (presented during the last Mobile Beat conference in San Francisco), and was the first to adopt Bump contactless technology. It also acquired FigCard to develop a Wi-Fi-based mobile payment solution. These moves assert it has not yet come to a final decision regarding its selected mobile payment solution and has been waiting for potential established standards or joint option by traditional players for a given technology. As various payment solutions in use today are relying on several mobile technologies, PayPay may benefit from this situation to widen its face-to-face payment offer and propose targeted and better suited solutions to respond to its merchant customers' needs.
  • PayPal is planing to exceed three billion dollars in mobile transactions through its platform in 2011. this figure should reach 7.5 billion by 2013.
