ComfortDelGro Equips its Taxis with Contactless Payment Solutions
- Singapore-based major transportation group ComfortDelGro has just entered a partnership with VeriFone to equip its 15,000 vehicles with a contactless payment acceptance system.
- All kinds of contactless payment cards are accepted.
- This massive deployment required an investment of 5 million Singapore dollars (about 2.9 million euros) and is intended to replace all solutions already in place by the end of the year.
- In 1995, ComfortDelGro was the first to deploy contactless payment acceptance devices in its cabs. It now wishes to secure its image as an innovative player and be the first in Singapore to expand this acceptance to all contactless payment cards.
- The Singaporean giant addresses an actual need illustrated by the group’s 2010 results: 10.7 million contactless transactions (+20% compared to 2009).
- The development of contactless payment now encompasses almost all the consumption sectors. For instance, the Commonwealth Bank recently partnered with the oil company Caltex to equip 387 gas stations in Australia with contactless payment card readers.
