Edenred Launches New Transportation Card

  • Edenred has announced a new contactless prepaid card embedding MasterCard PayPass technology and enabling access to the entire US transportation network (where PayPass technology is accepted).
  • This card allows wage-earning passengers to save through a reward programme subscribed by their employer with Commuter Check and WiredCommute (Edenred subsidiaries). This card also targets other consumer categories such as seniors, young people and disabled people.
  • The travellers benefiting from this card have different payment options to choose from: prepaid, pay as you go, daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly set rates, etc.
  • Several players have already started to embed ticketing applications on bank cards proposing several payment options (prepaid, debit, credit, etc.). The Romanian commercial bank (BCR), for instance, now proposes a credit card with transportation ticket in partnership with the Bucharest independent transportation network (RATB).

  • Edenred is an international leader in the prepaid sector; it now wishes to enrich its skills through building bridges with a worldwide banking network. This partnership between Edenred and MasterCard is in direct line with their first alliance between Accor Services and the banking network in 2009: this partnership allowed the creation of a joint-venture, PrePay Solutions, aiming at increasing the presence of the two players on the European prepaid market.
