Atos Providing iDEAL to ING

  • Netherlands-based ING Bank will be using Atos Worldline platform until end 2014 to process online payments through the interbank method iDEAL developed in the Netherlands. Atos has been providing services to ING since 2005; this additional service will be provided in SaaS mode.
  • Atos offer includes iDEAL’s compliance with SEPA regulation starting 2012. The aim is to help develop iDEAL for cross-border payments using the European identifiers BIC and IBAN.
  • iDEAL was launched in 2005 and its use grew significantly, ahead of comparable services such as German Giropay and Austrian eps. The customer pays for his online purchases by authorising from his online banking portal an iDEAL credit transfer to the e-merchant.
  • The EPC has started standardising e-payments basing on this online payment model of interbank re-direction from the merchant website. Considering iDEAL’s success (40% online purchases in the Netherlands in 2009), a European “proof of concept” was set up by the EPC between the three above-mentioned schemes. The aim is to propose a SEPA standard within one year.
