Protocols: Orange confirms X25 network dismantlement

  • In a customer letter sent end of last December, Orange Business Services confirmed the end of the X25 telecommunication service. This reminds their previous letter of January 2010, notifying that this offer, which has ceased being commercialised On July 31, 2010, will be definitively stopped on September 30, 2011. The phone lines will then start being taken down.
  • As a consequence, the ETEBAC communication protocol will disappear together with its underlying X25 network.
  • The X25 network is still used by most French companies resorting to electronic data interchange (EDI) with their bank(s) in the intertwined ETEBAC 3 and 5 protocols. This means tens of thousands of them remain to be migrated at a rhythm of about two hundreds per day by the end of September. Replacement solutions have been set up by banks (through their national CFONB standardisation body) since end 2009. Corporate customers can chose between EBICS and SWIFTNet connectivity.
