Card-related services: Gemalto & MasterCard’s emergency card replacement offer
- MasterCard selected Gemalto for its international emergency payment card replacement service. Premium MasterCard cardholders will receive a new card within a maximum 24 hours delay, from the day they notify loss or theft of their card, wherever they are.
- Once the loss or theft is reported, MasterCard sends the cardholder's data through a secure worldwide communication infrastructure certified by Gemalto. Data management is then centralised by Gemalto and the replacement request sent to the relevant local customisation centre.
- This service relies on a system which enables MasterCard to fully trace the issuing process and interact in real time with Gemalto's services.
- MasterCard proposes a particularly fast replacement service to its Premium customers, without their having to resort to their banks. This high added value service is a part of MasterCard's strategy of dealing directly with its end-users (individuals and merchants) through services which do not require interaction with the issuing or acquiring bank.
- It should be noted that Gemalto recently strengthened its strategic partnership with VeriFone by designating VeriFone's payment system as its preferential provider, working together to improve the adoption of EMV card payment solutions and its POS terminal manufacturing activity being purchased by VeriFone.
