Multifonction automation: new automaton installed in New Delhi

  • In New Delhi people can now pay for their phone bills or top-up their mobile phone in the metro stations. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had dedicated multi-service payment kiosks with touchscreen installed in about twenty metro stations.
  • The user dials his mobile phone number on the keypad (displayed on the screen) and inserts the required amount. According to the DMRC's spokesman these devices should then enable insurance premiums as well as electricity and water bills payments. They also should make it possible to purchase fight tickets and movie tickets.
  • These kiosks located in the metro stations, precisely where a large number of users might need them, fit in the current “transit banking” trend. This approach was also adopted by Citibank in several Asian towns (Singapore and Shanghai, for instance). The American bank developed strategic partnerships with local common transportation services in order to set up banking ranches in the metro stations.
